Navajo Treatment Center for Children & their Families
The Navajo Treatment Center for Children & their Families (NTCCF) is excited to announce:
- Preserving Navajo Families planning with Hataałii is underway, and the budget has been set aside for ceremonies, Family preservation, and cultural education/consultation.
- The program is establishing a Hataalii/Chanter Summit for the DAP initiative on March 22, 2024, at Dine College.
- The program attended 2 trainings for this week on Yikaii Yizhchi, and the other training is on Crisis intervention.
- The Crownpoint NTCCF office, in collaboration with Gallup/McKinley County Schools, is establishing an MOU for school based services.
Department for Self-Reliance
The DSR participated in the Navajo Nation Public Outreach in Salt Lake City, Utah. The purpose for the Outreach was to provide program information to the Navajo population living in the Salt Lake City, Utah area. The event was a success and the DSR provided information on February 15, to 317 people and on February 16, there were 139 people that stopped by their booth to pick up information. The overall total number of people that stopped by the booth in two days was 465.
- The DSR had a meeting with consultants Dr. Geni Cowan and Dr. Jose Chavez who are hired by Eaglesun Systems. The purpose of the meeting was to begin planning the Case Management Training scheduled for April 2024. Dr. Cowan will begin developing a proposed agenda for the training. The training will provide information to all DSR Case Workers to facilitate proficiency, accuracy, competency, and Trauma Informed Care.
- The Ft. Defiance DSR staff attended an “Active Shooter Training”. The training was held in Dilkon at the Navajo Christian Foundation Gymnasium, the trainer was Mr. Leroy Wilson from the COBRA Self Defense Navajo Nation in Ganado, AZ. There was a total of 14 staff members who attended. The training was intense, and it gives the attendees something to think about and how they will react when they are put in such a situation.
- For the month of February 2024, DSR assisted 4,632 total DSR Recipients of the total there were 1,215 adults and 3,417 children.
- DSR and DFS attended the KPMG Audit Documentation Presentation at the Navajo Department of Transportation on February 24, 2024. The purpose for the presentation was to allow NN Program employees to understand the objectives of an audit, understand the different types of audits conducted at Navajo Nation, understand the responsibility of auditors to obtain sufficient audit to support the audit opinion, types of supporting documents, importance of appropriate audit documentation and recognizing what constitutes sufficient audit evidence.
Department of Child Care & Development
Direct Service Accomplishments include the following:
- Chinle Region: The Chinle Agency Child Care Centers have implemented traditional food days on Wednesdays that include: blue corn banana bread, blue corn scones, blue corn cupcakes, blue corn pancakes, and mutton stew with blue corn frybread. The children enrolled at the centers have enjoyed the traditional foods.
- Crownpoint Region: The casework unit completed a family/provider engagement activity for “Love Ur Pet Day” show and tell. The Child Care Center reviewed and updated their emergency management response plan and will be partnering with Navajo Technical University for future emergency response planning. Seven center staff completed training and the fire extinguishers were inspected for health and safety standards.
- Tuba City Region: The Tuba City Child Care center completed their March 2024 lesson plans. Leupp child care center staff have participated in outreach events at local surrounding chapters, tribal offices, and the flea markets to provided consumer education to the general public. In addition, they have posted DCCD flyers and job vacancy listings for recruitment of staff. The Tuba City Casework unit completed recruitment at the Gap and Cameron chapter areas for providers and families.
